How to Appoint or Remove an Agent

To Appoint or Remove an Agent – sent the Appointment of Agent or Revocation of Agent forms to:

Appointment of Agent

A property owner can designate a lessee or other person to act on property tax matters. Please read all applicable laws and rules carefully, including Tax Code Section 1.111 and Comptroller Rule 9.3044. The appointment will not take effect until filed with the Galveston Central Appraisal District. Once effective, the appointment remains in effect until (1) the Revocation of Agent form is filed with Galveston CAD by the owner or owner’s designated agent, or (2) the expiration date, if any, noted on the Appointment of Agent form filed with the Appraisal District.

*NOTE: This form must be signed by the property owner, a property manager authorized to designate agents for the owner, or a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner other than the person being designated as the agent. If you are a person other than the property owner, you will be required to show proof authorizing you to designate agents or act on behalf of the property owner.

Revocation of Agent

This form can be used to remove (revoke) agent authority for property tax matters. If you do not revoke authority to all property which you previously granted agent authority, the designation will continue until (1) an updated Revocation of Agent form is filed with the Appraisal District, or (2) the expiration date, if any, noted on the Appointment of Agent form filed with the Appraisal District. Pursuant to Tax Code Section 1.111(d), a property owner may not designate more than one agent to represent the property owner in connection with an item of property. The designation of an agent in connection with an item of property revokes any previous designation of an agent in connection with that item of property.
